I have just done another course with the Sutherland Cranial College. I wasn't going to do one so soon, but the principal was Michael Harris, who is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met, and it was in Malvern, so I couldn't really say no!!
This was Module 5 - In Reciprocal Tension. It was full of lovely biomechanics and extremely in-depth physiology of the structures we looked at, which is great for a nerd like me! In all seriousness though, this course did allow me to appreciate that the more I know about the body, the more effective the treatment is. We considered how all structures, from connective tissues, meninges, muscles, ligaments, tendons to the fascia and extracellular matrix are all connected and held in balanced, reciprocal tension. This allows the body to adapt itself to strains and forces applied to it in a very intelligent and balanced way. We can engage this tension to find where any problems stem from and use it to then address and treat strains using the body's own reorganising processes.
