Treating babies and children
Since having his own children, Stuart's interest in the treatment of babies grew, which led to him attending a paediatric first aid course and subsequently an international paediatric osteopathy course where he learned vital skills for effective treatment of babies and young children.
A baby cannot tell us about discomfort but may show the following signs: Fussiness / irritability / crying for extended periods Difficulty feeding (breast or bottle) / latching / preferring to feed on one side Digestive discomfort / wind Trouble sleeping Stuart treats babies using cranial osteopathy, which is where very gentle pressure is applied carefully and specifically to allow the body's natural healing processes to restore balance. Due to its very gentle nature, cranial osteopathy is very safe and effective for babies, children and even adults. There are numerous reasons for which a baby may benefit from osteopathic assessment and treatment. The birth process is incredibly traumatic, even in what may be perceived as a "normal" birth. The head has to squeeze through the mother's pelvis which is relatively small. To allow this, the bones of the baby's skull overlap and make it smaller. The neck also twists and during a long pushing stage, the baby can remain in this position for some time. Following birth the head returns to it's normal shape but this can sometimes be uncomfortable or incomplete due to imbalances in the cranial (head) bones. This often happens in difficult, long or rapid births and can cause discomfort throughout the whole body, as well as the head.
